How it works
Five steps, in the order a child meets them. Nothing here describes a feature that is not in the app today.
Start with the Fidel
Tigrinya is written in its own script, so reading comes first. The course teaches all 240 letters in small groups, each with the sound it makes, rather than asking a child to recognise a wall of characters at once.
Meet a word, then meet it again
Every word is introduced with its script, its pronunciation and its meaning, and then brought back days later. The gap between repeats grows as a child gets it right and shrinks when they do not, so time goes to the words that are actually slipping.
Hear it said properly
Every word and every story line has a recording. No browser ships a Tigrinya voice, so nothing here relies on one — the audio is generated and stored, and a real speaker's recording replaces it wherever one exists.
Read something real
Once there is enough vocabulary, 193 short stories open up, each with comprehension questions. The text stays on screen while the questions are answered — this is reading practice, not a memory test.
See what is actually happening
The parent dashboard counts words a child can recall unprompted, not words they have seen once. The number is small at first and honest throughout.

Every one of the 9,991 words in the course is spoken aloud. These are the same clips the lessons use — tap one.
Most words are spoken by a synthesised Tigrinya voice — no company makes a commercial one for this language, so the alternative was silence. Recorded human pronunciation is being added word by word, and a recorded word always replaces the synthetic one.
What we will not do
- No ads, ever, and no chat between children.
- Recordings made on the device are never uploaded.
- Progress figures count recall, not exposure.
- Locked awards show exactly what is still needed.
- Every count on the site is read from the course, not typed into the copy.
